1511: Commemorates Former Patients of Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital

1511 is a faculty-lead, research-driven art project that honours the generations of patients of the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital Cemetery (now the Humber College Lakeshore Campus). In this unique project, second-year students from the Visual and Digital Arts program collaborated with the Lakeshore Ground Interpretive Centre and Among Friends, a community mental health organization with members who have personal histories tied to the psychiatric facility, to create a commemorative artwork based on the history of the site and its patients. To cultivate creative concepts, students sought the guidance of researchers, historians, artists, and most significantly, community members with direct ties/experiences with the psychiatric hospital.
