COVID-19 Update: Provincial Government Announces Plan to Reopen Post-Secondary Education in a Phased Approach

The provincial government announced today a phased approach to reopening post-secondary education.

Beginning in July, limited in-person education and training may restart for students who were not able to graduate due to COVID-19 closures.

This first phase will allow institutions to reopen to provide in-person instruction to students in essential, frontline, and high labour market demand areas, such as nursing, personal support workers, engineering, and other critical professions. The pilot project this summer will be made available to students who are considered to be “academically stranded,” which means they only require a limited number of hours of in-person/hands-on instruction or experience to complete their studies.

The plan was developed in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and specific health and safety measures will need to be met.

Humber's COVID-19 Resuming On-campus Operations Steering Committee has been planning a phased return to campus for students and staff. Part of that planning has involved identifying how students from the Winter and Summer terms who were unable to complete their in-person requirements could return to campus in July and August. More information will be shared in the coming days.
