Desta McCalla, Associate Director, Accessible Learning

The leadership team in Student Success and Engagement is thrilled to announce Desta McCalla as the new Associate Director overseeing Accessible Learning Services and Testing Services.

Desta is a Disability Management Professional and Occupational Health Nurse. She holds an honours degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University and a diploma in Occupational Health Nursing from a collaborative program between Ryerson, Humber and George Brown. Desta brings a depth of experience and knowledge in supporting individuals with disabilities receive accommodation and return to work. Prior to joining Humber, she worked for a disability management firm and a leading law firm as a consultant to both private and public sectors where she taught administrators best practices in case and absence management, created mental health initiatives and advised on occupational health policy. For the past two years, she has held an administrative position in Human Resources as a Disability & Accommodation Specialist. Desta made significant contributions to defining Humber’s disability management program by providing expertise and guidance to internal stakeholders on human rights issues, privacy matters, timely accessibility to resources and accommodation.

Desta will begin her role in SSE while supporting a transition in HR beginning September 4.
