I am pleased to announce that Dr. Joanna Amirault is the successful candidate for the role of Associate Dean in the School of Social and Community Services. Joanna joined Humber in 2014, taking on the role of program coordinator for the Bachelor of Social Science, Criminal Justice in 2016. She has consistently been among the top teaching faculty in the school, providing mentorship to both students and faculty since she began. 

Joanna holds an Honours B.A. from Queen’s University in Global Development Studies and an M.A. and PhD from the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. During her studies, Joanna was awarded a wide range of scholarships, awards and grants, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Doctoral Scholarship Award. Her passion and commitment to her field is exemplified through her research focusing on criminal and social justice, with evidence of her scholarship found in her record of accomplishment of publications and presentations.  

Joanna will help our new Faculty realize our polytechnic vision through applying social innovation to the range of issues our community partners encounter. Her work with community partners such as the Toronto Police Services is an example of applied research that will impact entire neighbourhoods across the city.

Joanna’s commitment to Humber is exemplified by her membership on the Applied Research Working Group, the Cultivate Peer Review Committee, and the Interprofessional Education Workshop committee in SSCS. She has also led numerous international projects with academic partners that have helped the school contribute to the Internationalization strategy. 

Those who work closest with Joanna know her as a strong advocate for students, faculty, and partners. We are fortunate that her impact will extend as she assumes her new role.
