Dr. Martine Spinks, Associate Dean, Design & Built Environment

I am pleased and delighted to announce that Dr. Martine Spinks has accepted the position of Associate Dean, Design & Built Environment within the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology.  

Martine joins us with more than 15 years as an internationally networked academic in the Built Environment Sciences. Martine’s education spans with credentials from a B.A. in International Development (major); Urban Systems & Ethnic Studies (minors) from McGill University, a MSc. in Cities, Space & Society from London School of Economics and Political Sciences, and a PhD from the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, University College London, England. She has also completed several courses in Learning and Teaching in Higher & Professional Education, Institute of Education, University College London.  

She comes to us with experience from various academic capacities, starting as a Manager in Public Sector Consultancy, Sustainability, Real Estate & Planning Team, PwC, followed by a role as an Associate Director for a Government Building Consultancy in London, England. Upon completion of her PhD, she was hired as a faculty researcher and lecturer in Sustainable Building at the School of Planning, Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, University College London. Since her return to Canada, she has acted as a lecturer/professor at University of Toronto, Ryerson University and Seneca College and most recently as an Academic Planning Consultant and Program Coordinator, Faculty of Continuing Education, at Seneca College. She is a member of the Building Research Establishment’s Global Governing Body. 

Her educational and professional background combined with her teaching qualifications, administrative and managerial experience, positions her well for our new Associate Dean in the Design and Built Environment cluster.  

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Carl Oliver, in particular for the outstanding job that he has done as Associate Dean during the last few years. Carl will continue as Associate Dean until the end of the Fall 2020 term. Dr. Martine Spinks will take over the role of Associate Dean on January 4, 2020. 

Dr. Martine Spinks will be joining Humber on November 30, 2020. Throughout the month of December, she will have the opportunity to meet you and transition smoothly into her role.
