I am pleased to announce that Dr. Shaun Ghafari has accepted the position of Associate Dean, Advanced Manufacturing at the School of Applied Technology, effective July 15, 2018.

Since 2010, Shaun has worked in the college system and has held leadership roles in applied research, degree development, community engagement and as a full-time Professor in Mechanical Engineering. Shaun established strong industry partnerships as the coordinator of the applied research and industry projects. He has been awarded several grants from provincial and federal funding agencies, and successfully supervised a team of faculties, staff, and students in a number of industrial projects. His experience in launching new certificate and degree programs will help him to lead the development of new Bachelor of Mechatronics degree at Humber.

Shaun is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. He has more than eight years industry experience in the automotive and energy sectors as the team leader for large motor services with GE Canada and chief engineer in several automotive surface coating projects. His industry experience gives him the insight to improve the curriculum to address the existing skill gap in manufacturing.

Shaun received his MSc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Waterloo, Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research has been published in peer reviewed international journals and presented at several conferences. He is also certified as level 2 Mechatronics Program instructor by Siemens Academy Berlin, Germany.
