Humber Announces new Leadership Team in Athletics

The Department of Student Success and Engagement is pleased to announce the appointment of Ray Chateau as Director of Athletics and Recreation, effective August 12, 2013. In addition, Michael Kopinak has assumed the role of Associate Director, beginning on July 8, 2013.

About Ray Chateau

Since 2000, Ray has been the program co-ordinator of the Business Administration, Professional Golf Management program and has been responsible for the redevelopment and advancement of the program. During this period, Ray has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the program and the field of education with a number of awards including the Leadership in Faculty Teaching (LIFT) award and Humber College’s Distinguished Faculty Award. In addition to his academic contributions, Ray has had a significant presence within Humber's varsity program, having served as the Head Coach of Humber's varsity golf team for twelve years. During this period his teams won a record setting 10 CCAA men's national championships, and Ray served as the Team Canada's Head Coach for the World University Championships from 2004 to 2011. In 2012, Ray was the recipient of the CCAA's Coaching Excellence Award across All Sports.

An outstanding leader, Ray looks forward to continuing to provide students with a broad spectrum of opportunities that contribute to and create a greater level of student engagement in the college experience.

About Michael Kopinak

Mike has been employed at Humber since 1999, in a variety of roles in the areas of Residence Life, International Student Services, Student Life and most recently Public Safety. Throughout his career at Humber he has been dedicated to creating a positive "out of class" student experience, and is known for his enthusiasm and dedication to students at the college.
Mike has been recognized by his peers and honored by the college by earning the through the 2010 Extra Mile Award and the 2012 Distinguished Service Award, presented at the President’s Breakfast. Mike has also been a leader in Varsity athletics for the past eight years, as the co-ordinator and a coach of the very successful varsity badminton program, helping guide the team to four straight provincial championships and eight individual medals at nationals, including two golds.
