Humber at EDIT: Expo for Design, Innovation & Technology

The School of Applied Technology is pleased to represent Humber at EDIT: Expo for Design, Innovation & Technology, a unique collaboration between the Design Exchange and the UNITED NATIONS Development Programme (UNDP). EDIT is an immersive expo-meets-festival designed to celebrate the innovative work addressing global challenges such as ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, and combatting climate change.

The theme of the Humber exhibit is “Sustainability by Design”.

Sustainability is one of Humber’s core values and we are focused on making a positive impact on our local, regional and global communities. From how we design our built environment, interact with the physical environment, and in the way we teach and learn, Humber is building a better tomorrow. Student work is represented from the following Applied Technology programs: Bachelor of Industrial Design, Bachelor of Interior Design, Architectural Technology, and, Sustainable Energy and Building Technology.

Sustainable Energy and Building Technology Advanced Diploma

Under the leadership of 3rd year student Zack Pennock, the SEHOW (Sustainable Energy Hands-On Workshop) Student Club partnered with Chartwell’s, a food services company, to design and build a campus hydroponics table that can grow high quality produce indoors without soil, while consuming fewer resources and taking up less space than traditional methods. The hydroponic table exhibit is an example of sustainable and responsible food production which can be scaled for residential use or commercial purposes.
