Humber Employee Travel Advisory to the U.S.

Dear colleagues,

With recent developments and a travel advisory issued by the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), we are advising all Humber Polytechnic employees to exercise caution and/or avoid non-essential travel to the United States at this time.

The advisory reflects growing concerns about increased scrutiny at U.S. borders, as highlighted in an update from Global Affairs Canada, and potential challenges for academics and staff, particularly those involved in research or work related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. There is also concern about additional scrutiny of those who express political views that are in opposition to current U.S. administration policies publicly and on social media.

If travel to the U.S. is necessary for work purposes, please speak with your supervisor in advance. If travel to the U.S. is required, we strongly recommend reviewing what information is stored on your devices and taking appropriate steps to safeguard sensitive data.

Though we do not believe there to be any personal danger in travel to the U.S., we want to limit any difficulties our employees may encounter when trying to enter the country.

Thank you for your attention and caution.

Sincerely,

Jennifer O’Brien
Vice-President, People(s), Culture and Organizational Excellence
