Ian Crookshank, Dean of Students

I am delighted to announce that Ian Crookshank will be joining Humber as our new Dean of Students. Ian (He/His) brings extensive experience in the post-secondary sector and a passion for student affairs.

More than fifteen years ago, Ian started his career in post-secondary as a Live-In Residence Life Staff member at the University of Windsor. Today, Ian is a senior leader at Ryerson University, having served this past year as both Interim Vice-Provost, Students and Interim Executive Director, Student Affairs. Over the past seven years, he has also held the roles of the Director, Student Community Life and the Director of Housing and Residence Life, helping to create positive student experiences at Ryerson during a time of significant change and growth. Ian also spent a number of years working in progressively senior positions in residence life at York University.

In his new role, Ian will be responsible for overseeing:

  • Athletics & Recreation – Community Engagement, Fitness, Recreation, Varsity
  • Student Wellness & Equity – Accessible Learning Services, Health & Counselling Services, Testing Services, Student Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives (LGBTQ+, the BASE), Residence Life, Office of Student Conduct, as well as Student Support & Intervention – Sexual Violence Response, Support & Prevention, Student Crisis Response, Student Intervention & Case Management
  • Student Events – Curriculum Support (e.g. capstone projects in PR programs), Event Planning & Management
  • Transition & Academic Support – Co-curricular Record, Leadership Programs, Orientation, Transition & Retention Programs, Advising and Career Services, Peer Assisted Learning Support
  • Current Student Communications – Digital Communications, WeGotYou Campaign
  • Student Support & Intervention – Sexual Violence Response, Support & Prevention, Student Crisis Response, Student Intervention & Case Management

Ian will play a key role in helping us move toward our goal of becoming the healthiest campus in Canada and ensuring Humber students are supported inside and outside of the classroom.

Ian holds a Bachelor in Business Administration (Wilfrid Laurier University) and a Masters of Education with a focus on Post-Secondary Studies (York University). Ian is an avid cyclist, recreational athlete, fan of all things Star Wars but most importantly a dedicated father and partner.
