Introducing Chris Whitaker

July 6, 2012

Chris Whitaker began his tenure this week as Humber’s new President and CEO.  He is the fourth president in Humber’s history.

While Whitaker’s first order of business is to talk to students, faculty and staff to learn more about Humber and to get the pulse of the organization, he plans to build on Humber’s strengths and core values including our breadth of programs, range of credentials and pathways between them, a dedicated and experienced faculty, community support and a reputation for having a student-focused, high-quality teaching and learning environment.

“I’m fortunate in that my incoming challenge is to maintain and build on the great things happening at Humber. I’m excited to talk to the Humber community. I want to know what students and employees think we do well and where we can improve,” says Whitaker. Ultimately, everything we do should support student success in the classroom. I want to continue to foster an innovative and quality educational experience that results in students graduating and going on to the careers they desire.”

Quick Facts:
Prior to Humber, Whitaker was President and CEO at St. Lawrence College. He also held the roles of VP Academic and Dean of the School of Business at St. Lawrence.

Whitaker’s strong academic background includes a Ph.D from University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, an MA from York University and a BA from Queen’s University.

Whitaker is married with three children. He enjoys spending time at his cottage, running, reading and cheering on his favourite hockey team (hint, they wear a blue and white uniform)
