Lindsay Walker Wins AASHE Fellows Award for Significant Contributions to the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education

I am pleased to share that Lindsay Walker, Humber Polytechnic’s Director of Sustainability, has been announced as a recipient of the inaugural Fellows Award from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The AASHE Fellows Award recognizes mid-career individuals who are significantly contributing to the advancement of sustainability in higher education.  

A total of ten individuals were selected to receive the award. They were judged on the impact of their projects and programs; product contributions that advance sustainability in higher education; presentations and publications; and service and mentorship.  

Over the past 12 years, Lindsay’s leadership has positioned Humber Polytechnic as a global sustainability leader. She has led major initiatives—such as the Friendlier reusable container program, Bee Campus and Fair Trade Certifications, and Low Waste Event Spaces—embedding sustainability into institutional strategies and daily operations. Under her guidance, Humber has completed four STARS reports, each earning a better score than the last, and developed three sustainability strategies targeting different areas of sustainability including waste, social and economic empowerment, climate awareness, and student engagement.

Throughout her career, Lindsay has been a dedicated mentor and advocate for advancing sustainability in both academic and broader community contexts. She regularly advises peers and emerging professionals across Canada, sharing her expertise through presentations, publications, and thought leadership. In addition to her work at Humber Polytechnic, Lindsay contributes to climate action beyond the post-secondary sector, including her role on the City of Toronto’s Climate Advisory Group and Evergreen Brickworks’ Board of Directors. Her commitment continues to drive progress toward equitable, climate solutions across sectors.
