National Day of Mourning

April 28, 2014

A DAY TO REMEMBER LIVES LOST IN THE WORKPLACE AND TO RENEW OUR COMMITMENT TO A SAFE AND HEALTHY WORKPLACE

April 28 has been designated the Day of Mourning for workers who have been killed or injured in the workplace. It is a time when workers, families, employers, and others come together to honour those who have lost their lives or have been seriously impacted by work-related accidents or occupational diseases.

This day also reminds us that we must work together and renew our effort to continually improve health and safety in the workplace.

History:  April 28, 2014 marks 100 years since the Worker’s Compensation Act was passed into Ontario law. This Act introduced significant basic protection for workers and employers that still continues to this day.

To commemorate the day, Humber’s flag will be flown at half-mast on
Monday, April 28, 2014.
