National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Gender-based and sexual violence and harassment have no place at Humber. Reflected in the various policies and practices at Humber College, including the Sexual Violence Policy, Gender Diversity Policy, and Human Rights & Harassment Policy, is our commitment to combating both the hatred that led to the young women’s deaths, as well as the misogyny that continues to exist in our society today.

On December 6, 1989, 34 years ago, 14 young women at Polytechnique Montreal were murdered. This act of violent misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women. Humber College continues to mourn the loss of the 14 women and honour their memory. We encourage you to reflect on this year’s theme: Remember, Reflect, Respond.
