Professor Prasad Bidaye receives PhD

November 18, 2014

Please join me in congratulating Professor Prasad Bidaye from the Department of English in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, on the successful completion of his doctorate at the University of Toronto in the Department of English and in collaboration with the Centre for South Asian Studies.

Prasad’s thesis, titled, Tropologies of Indianness in Anglophone Colonial and Postcolonial South Asian Fiction was supervised by Dr. Chelva Kanganayakam, Professor in the Department of English at the University of Toronto. Other members of his committee included Dr. Uzoma Esonwanne and Dr. Victor Li, and his external examiners were Professors Rahul Sapra (Associate Professor, Ryerson University) and Suzanne Conklin Akbari (English and Medieval Studies, University of Toronto).

As noted by his external examiners, “[b]y using the lens of Neo-Vedantic metaphysics to read the concept of Indianness in South Asian fiction, the thesis makes a significant contribution [to] Postcolonial studies”
