Save Your Devices for the Upcoming Community Device Drive

With the holiday season upon us, the Office of Sustainability, Community Outreach & Workforce Development, and Information Technology Solutions would like to encourage you to hold on to your old computing devices (laptops, desktops, tablets) for a future device drive.

The device drive will support the Renewed Computer Technology (RCT) partnership, which offers students in financial need the opportunity to purchase refurbished desktop or laptop computers at affordable prices.

Students can learn more about their eligibility and apply for a refurbished device package here.

Questions about this initiative can be directed to communityoutreach@humber.ca.

Creating a Positive Sustainability Loop:

Humber community members will have the opportunity to upcycle devices that are no longer in use to a community partner that will recycle parts for a worthy initiative seeking to provide equitable technology access.

This will also help divert hazardous electronic waste from landfill, which can leak toxic elements that are harmful to the environment and to humans.

Did you know? According to the Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling, Canada generated 638,300 tonnes of "e-scrap" — electronic and electrical equipment — in 2017.
