Vacation Planning and Employee Appreciation Time for 2025

Please view information below on statutory holidays and employee appreciation days that will be observed for 2025.   

2025 STATUTORY HOLIDAYS  

While services such as campus residence remain open, Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber will be closed on the following Statutory Holidays for 2025:

Friday, August 1 – Noon (prior to the Civic Day holiday)  

Note: There is no early closure prior to the Labour Day statutory holiday in September.  

2025 HOLIDAY CLOSURE  

Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber will be closed for the holiday break on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, January 2, 2026.   

Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber will re-open on Monday, January 5, 2026.  

VACATION PLANNING:  

Humber Polytechnic recognizes that work-life balance is essential for all employees and encourages employees to utilize their annually allotted vacation days, in consultation with their manager.    

Employees are reminded to submit their vacation requests in a timely manner and refer to the application ‘Vacation Accrual Summary Document’ below for guidance on allotted days and how accrued vacation is administered.    

KEY CONSIDERATIONS BY EMPLOYEE GROUP: 

FULL-TIME ACADEMIC STAFF

Additional information can be found in Article 15 of the Academic Collective Agreement.    

For most Academic staff, the 2025 summer vacation period is as follows:  

Begins: Wednesday, June 25, 2025  

Ends: Tuesday, August 26, 2025  

Faculty Return: Wednesday, August 27, 2025  

Classes Begin: Tuesday, September 2, 2025  

 It is recognized that most non-teaching faculty and those who are teaching in the Spring and Summer semesters will have different vacation opportunities and schedules, as approved by their Associate Dean/Manager.    

 

FULL-TIME  SUPPORT STAFF 

Information on vacation accrual and HRMS process please refer to the Full-Time Support Staff Vacation Accrual Summary Document.

Additional information can be found in Article 11 of the Support Staff Collective Agreement. 

Note: As per Article 11.5 for the Support Staff Collective Agreement, employees are required to indicate their preference, if any, as to vacation dates by March 1st of the current vacation year for the next vacation year (July 1 to June 30).

PART-TIME SUPPORT STAFF

FULL-TIME ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
