Welcoming Dr. Adeel Safdar, Humber’s new BioSteel Research Chair

Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and the School of Health Sciences welcomes Dr. Adeel Safdar as the holder of the new BioSteel Research Chair, the first position of its kind at Humber.

In partnership with BioSteel Sports Supplements Inc., and under the direction of the Associate Dean of Allied Health, Dr. Safdar will lead the development of an applied research program that focuses on health outcomes for a variety of populations.

Dr. Safdar holds a doctoral degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University, and has completed two prestigious postdoctoral fellowships at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard University and at the Michael DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University.

Additionally, he was the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) for Exerkine, where he led the development and commercialization of patented genetic therapies using exosome biology and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing for rare diseases. He was also the CSO for the MitoCanada Foundation. Dr. Safdar’s research has received numerous awards including, most recently, the Postdoctoral Fellow Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award from McMaster University. Dr. Safdar has been successful in securing more than $2.5 million dollars in federal research grants for his work.
