Winter Weather Wise: Dress Warmly and Watch Your Step

January 28, 2015

The extreme cold weather conditions we have been experiencing so far this winter present a number of safety hazards, including extremely cold temperatures and potentially slippery indoor and outdoor walking surfaces caused by ice and snow.

Winter Safety Tips:

  • Check the weather conditions regularly, and give yourself extra time when travelling to arrive safely at your destination.
  • Dress warmly and stay dry. Wear proper footwear for the weather.
  • Slow down; adjust your pace to suit the walking surface.
  • Be extra careful on walkways and parking lots where there may be slippery patches.
  • When carrying objects, ensure that they do not block your view.
  • Clean your footwear thoroughly on floor mats when you come indoors.
