World First Aid Day

Created by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 2000, World First Aid Day is celebrated globally with the goal of promoting the importance of first aid knowledge and skills to respond to injuries and save lives.

On this World First Aid Day, it is important to review the first aid process at Humber:

  • If someone is injured, the first priority is to ensure that the person receives any needed first aid or medical attention.
  • Public Safety staff and security guards are the designated first aiders on campus. All security guards on campus are trained in first aid and have access to first aid kits and AEDs.
  • For emergencies, call 911 and Public Safety (416.675.6622 x4000).
  • For non-emergency first aid, call Public Safety at 416.675.8500.
  • First aid can also be obtained through Humber’s Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC) during normal work hours.
    • North Campus: LRC Building second floor
    • Lakeshore Campus: Welcome Centre second floor
  • For the International Graduate School and the Community Employment Centres, a number of staff members are trained in first aid and are considered the designated first aiders at these locations.

Remember: if an incident or injury occurs, the first priority is to ensure appropriate care is obtained for the injured person. The incident must then be reported to a Supervisor, who will complete a Health & Safety Incident Report Form and submit it to Occupational Health & Safety Services for review and WSIB purposes.
