The 18th annual Humber College Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) and Physiotherapist Assistant (PTA) seminar in partnership with the Canadian Seating & Mobility Conference (CSMC) will be held May 6, 7, & 8, 2013 at the Toronto Congress Centre. This three-day seminar exhibits an array of advancements in the seating and mobility arena; giving students and professionals the opportunity to gain primary knowledge of new modalities and share information. The key educational opportunity for OTA/PTAs is our one day Virtual Reality and Rehabilitation session on May 7, 2013 presented by Jennifer L. Campos, PhD: Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, iDAPT Research and Technology and Vera Fung, M.Sc. PT: Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, St. John's Rehab.

 Video gaming and virtual reality are becoming increasingly utilized as treatment interventions in rehabilitation. Clinical decision making surrounding their use requires knowledge in how the human sensory system integrates with the human brain. It is also important to understand how these systems change under adverse health conditions and how they affect one's ability to perform daily functions. This knowledge will facilitate the implementation of virtual reality and active gaming systems in a health care setting for various patient populations.

���Participating at CSMC is vitally important to the growth and ongoing success of OTAs and PTAs. Attendees learn the latest research and practice trends from their peers, which they take back to their clinical settings. Occupational Therapist Assistants and Physiotherapist Assistants, and students should get the opportunity to network with colleagues while enhancing their education and learning new treatment modalities, ultimately benefitting patient-care.�۝

The collaboration between Humber and the CSMC is one of the newest settings for nationwide education. The event provides the opportunity for industry networking among students and professionals and highlights the needs of funded research for further advancement of the profession.
