2SLGBTQ+ Capacity Building Discussion

This three-hour workshop will act as an add on/review of the Community Conversation. Participants will also go more in depth about 2SLGBTQ+ topics, histories and experiences. Folks will go through colonial impacts on gender diversity and sexual orientations and 2Spirit identities. Participants will go over aspects of transitioning, the 2SLGBTQ+ acronyms and pronouns. This workshop will also utilize group sharing, storytelling and information sharing for all workshop registrants.

Facilitator Bio:

Teddy Syrette (Ozhawa Aanung Kwe - Yellow Star Woman) is a 2-Spirit, Anishinaabe artist of Batchewana First Nation near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Teddy uses they/them pronouns and is an artist advocate 2-Spirit/Queer-Trans Indigenous People and their communities. They have a diploma in Social Service Work-Native Specialization from Sault College (Go Cougars!) and their background is in social justice, theatre and bingo.

Teddy began public speaking about First Nation and LGBTQ+ rights in their mid-twenties, but has been advocating since they were ­fifteen years old. They have travelled and spoken in many communities across Turtle Island. Teddy has worked with multiple universities, colleges, high schools, community centres and First Nation communities.
