American Sign Language Workshop

Communicating with the Deaf in Emergency Situations

The development and delivery of this 10-hour workshop is in partnership with the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf. It will introduce you to strategies and techniques for dealing with individuals in the deaf community in first contact emergency situations. You will learn the American Sign Language (ASL) alphabet, simple sign language and communication strategies to be able to calm, reassure, assess and obtain contact and other necessary information. You will also learn about deaf culture in order to have a better understanding of how to communicate with individuals in the deaf community. At the end of the workshop you will receive a USB with video vignettes to practice and review what was learned in the workshop.

The next workshop is Saturday and Sunday, February 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

No previous knowledge of sign language is required to take this workshop.

The cost of the workshop is $150.00.
