Arboretum Walk & Learn: Sustainable Maple Syrup Harvesting

Warmer weather means the maple syrup harvest season has started in much of Ontario – but did you know that it happens right here on North Campus, too?

Join the Humber Arboretum's Coordinator of Education, Camps, and Community Outreach Jimmy Vincent for a lunch hour walking tour of the Arboretum’s sustainable urban sugar bush. You’ll learn about the process of tapping a tree and extracting sap along with the factors that the Arboretum takes into account to keep our the woodlands healthy and our maple syrup supply renewable. You’ll get to taste a little maple sap yourself and, weather and harvest permitting, see sap in the process of being boiled down into syrup.

Lunch and Learns at the Humber Arboretum’s Centre for Urban Ecology offer free introductions to topics related to gardening, ecology, and sustainability. Bring your lunch (if you can walk and eat!) and enjoy a casual learning environment exploring the Arboretum grounds.
