Humber Music Presents Big Band Night featuring the dazzling Humber College Jazz Big Band and the Manouche Jazz Ensemble.
There is nothing quite like the electrifying sizzle of the Jazz Big Band to transport the listener to the heart of swing! Humber's 18-piece Big Band with vocalists Domonique Wade and Ephraim Hildebrand will explore the great lexicon of American jazz that dominated New York for the first half of the Twentieth Century. The program also ventures into works by Canadian composers and arrangers, including Humber student Simon Williams. The ensemble is directed by seasoned composer, arranger and bassist, Shelly Berger, and will play a number of this longtime-faculty-member's original compositions and arrangements.
The Manouche Jazz Ensemble will kick off the evening of music from the era of 1930–1950, and the jazz stylings of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli. Often characterised by a fast-paced virtuosity and evocative of the Eastern European folk music of the Roma, the group features the multi-talented Audrey Vandendriesschen on Voice and Violin, joined by Matthew Moniz and Callum Clarke on guitars and Fabio Kutnowski on acoustic bass. The ensemble is directed by Humber faculty member Aline Homzy, a formidable jazz violinist and composer.
These Humber students display fabulous talent and shine in these professional-level ensembles. You won’t want to miss this evening!
