Black Excellence in Canada: Immersive Stories That Inspire – Exhibit and Kick-Off Event

Black Excellence in Canada: Immersive Stories That Inspire is a student-driven project dedicated to amplifying the often-overlooked stories of Black Canadians who have shaped Canadian society. Led by project leads Sharleen Mascoll and Brian Hastings, the initiative highlights student research and creative work across media, arts, politics, sports, activism, fashion, business, and more.

The project began last year with the support of Associate Dean Moriba Baker and has grown into an immersive exhibition showcasing powerful multimedia storytelling created by Humber students.

This initiative aligns with Humber Polytechnic’s Black Heritage Month theme, Black Brilliance: Stories that Shape Us, which recognizes Black storytelling as a source of identity, belonging, and community connection. The theme invites reflection on the personal, cultural, historical, and future-focused narratives that shape Black experiences at Humber and beyond.
