Learning objectives:

  • Reflect on our own experiences and perceptions of racial in/justice on campus and in our classrooms
  • Explore how racism is experienced differently among racialized communities
  • Analyze examples of microaggressions in order to uncover their harmful subtext
  • Consider the unique trajectories and circumstances of students who live on the intersections of multiple marginal identities
  • Identify strategies to create supportive learning environments for students

Facilitator bio:

Rahim Thawer MSW, RSW

Rahim Thawer is a registered social worker and psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, writer, and sessional lecturer. He's currently working on two books related to queer sexuality and mental health.

Rahim was also one of the co-founders of Ismaili Queers: Advocates for Pluralism and has dedicated almost 10 years to community organizing with Salaam Canada, a national volunteer-run LGBTQ Muslim organization.
