Gender Diversity 201

Tuesday, June 29, 2021 - 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion is pleased to invite you to its first Equity and Inclusion Dialogue for the 2021-2022 academic year, Gender Diversity 201. Online registration is now open. See the attached flyer for further details. Limited seating available.

This intensive applied workshop will help members of the Humber community provide caring, informed services, and allyship to gender-diverse students and colleagues. Topics will include contexts encountered by faculty, athletic departments, administration, student services, and more.

Workshop goals:

  • How and when to use certain terms
  • Learn successful confrontation techniques when witnessing or responding to a concern about prejudice (conditional outness and microaggressions, and systemic implications)
  • Adapt procedures, promotional efforts, curriculum, course outlines, conversations, and office environments to support diverse clients and colleagues

Dr. Ruth (Ruthie) Neustifter (they/them):

Ruth (Ruthie) Neustifter (they/them) is an openly sex-queer, non-binary gender-queer, poly, and kinky sex-positive advocate that aspires to base their work in anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approaches. Ruthie is the Academic Program Director, University of Guelph’s Couple & Family Therapy program; faculty facilitator of the Sexual and Gender Diversity Lab; co-chair of the Guelph Sexuality Conference (closed 2019); and author of The Nice Girl’s Guide to Talking Dirty. Their outreach and qualitative research has most recently included topics and focuses such as: trans and genderqueer experiences of microaggressions in healthcare, intimate relationships of adult learners, experiences of queerness on campus, defining sex/gender/kink outness, BIPOC definitions of outness, non-physical aspects of dating violence, texting-based sex education, and BDSM and body image. Creative, applied, and accessible dissemination of data-driven findings are a major component of their efforts.
