Healthy Relationships: An Indigenous Perspective

Relationships sustain us, and when it comes to Indigenous peoples, relationships and responsibility go hand in hand. Like responsibility, relationships involve mutual respect, accountability, and reciprocity. Relationships are about togetherness, team-building, nurturing, sharing, strength, and love. Relationships must be maintained both within oneself and with those around us in order to maintain a healthy balance.

Join Indigenous Education & Engagement and the Consent Peer Education Program in a discussion with John and Deanne Hupfield about what a healthy relationship looks like from an Indigenous perspective for them. John and Deanne met at the drum social at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto in fall 2008. Their snagiversary is Rama Powwow in October 2008. They married at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto in February 2011. Five kids later they are still working through life together as partners.
