The International Development Institute (IDI), in collaboration with the Office of Sustainability, invites you to celebrate International Development Week (IDW) on Wednesday February 7th on Lakeshore Campus!
This annual nationwide initiative encourages Canadians, especially youth, to learn more about and contribute to international development. Each year, hundreds of students and faculty participate in this event, eager to gain a wider global perspective and share their experiences and ideas on ways to reduce poverty and inequality.
Our theme this year is ‘Sustainable Change: Your Guide to Taking Action’ and focuses broadly on equality and empowerment, and Canada’s global efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We invite you to join us - and special guest, radio and TV personality and World Food Program Ambassador - George Stroumboulopoulos in marking this important day as we highlight efforts made by the Humber community and other organizations in building a better, more inclusive, peaceful and prosperous world.
Wednesday February 7th: Lakeshore Campus
UN Sustainable Development Goals Training
9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., G Building
Back by popular demand, the UN SDG Training provides practical tools for youth on advocacy and local implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The training will include keynote speaker Julie Marshall from the World Food Program who will share how they are they are working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. Participants will received a Certificate of Participation. Limited seating!

Representatives from NGOs and community-based organizations who are contributing to the SDGs will have booths set up where students can find out more about their work, and ways to get involved. George Stroumboulopoulos will be going live on his Instagram account from this event as he interacts with students and organizations.
Panel Discussion: Is Change Coming?
1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., G Building
A look at the current wave of feminist movements and their impact on the rights of women and girls around the globe. Moderated by George Stroumboulopoulos, featuring speakers from leading organizations working to address the rights of women and girls.
