Native Plant Gardening Workshop

If you're interested in learning more about gardening with native plants, don't forget to join us at the Humber Arboretum this Saturday for a free Native Plant Gardening 101 workshop presented by the Etobicoke Master Gardeners.

Native plants are those plants which occur naturally in an area, having evolved locally alongside each other and with the native wildlife. They are a fundamental part of local ecology, and without them many other species cannot survive.

Native plant gardens offer many benefits both to gardeners and the environment:

  • they provide food and shelter for wildlife, such as birds and insects
  • each new patch of native plants helps build a habitat network that can improve wildlife survival
  • attracting birds, butterflies, and other wildlife brings life to your outdoor spaces
  • native plants often require less water and less maintenance overall once established
  • replacing lawn with native plants reduces or eliminates the need to run a lawnmower
  • many native plants change throughout the seasons, offering a variety of colourful flowers, fruit and foliage

Take part in this free workshop and start making your native gardening plans for spring.
