President's Lecture Series: Dr. Christina Hoicka

Over 80 percent of Canada’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are energy-related and Canadians are among the highest per capita energy users and GHG emitters. With scientists calling for an acceleration of carbon mitigation activities, the Pact for a Green New Deal (PGND) was launched in Canada in May 2019, following on the heels of the American movement.

In this lecture, Dr. Hoicka will discuss the transformative potential of a Canadian PGND by focusing on the social and political characteristics of energy infrastructure, the architecture and logic of a 100% renewable energy transition and how this relates to a just and democratic energy transition.
