What: Ryan Truesdell and the Humber Faculty Jazz Orchestra present the music of the late, great Gil Evans.
If you like Miles Davis's Sketches of Spain, Porgy and Bess, or Miles Ahead, you're really hearing the influence of pianist, composer and arranger Gil Evans, Davis's longtime collaborator and one of the most pivotal figures in 20th-century jazz.
In honour of Gil Evans' 100th birthday, composer and arranger Ryan Truesdell and the Humber Faculty Jazz Orchestra will be playing selections of his work, both familiar pieces and a selection of "lost" compositions discovered by Truesdell.
