Shakespeare After Class: The Merry Wives of Windsor

Come discuss Shakespeare! Once per month we look at a play by Shakespeare from the perspective that Shakespeare might have something to teach us (rather than the other way around) about politics and human nature. Open to interested Humber faculty, administrators, support staff and students with a recommendation. You don’t need a background in English literature to attend.

This month we look at a comedy, The Merry Wives of Windsor, which has a much more modern feel to it than some other plays. Windsor is a small town next to a royal court and is the only play by Shakespeare to feature a newly emerging middle class. What are the marriages and families like in this play? What is Falstaff up to? Is Shakespeare saying anything about the nobility?

Where? Online on Zoom at 8 p.m. on December 16 (take a break from marking).

Coming plays: Julius Caesar on January 20, Measure for Measure on February 24.
