Transition to Work Symposium

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month across Canada. More than 400 students and recent graduates from Humber, the University of Guelph-Humber (UGH) and Seneca registered for this morning’s Transition to Work symposium to learn about disability employment issues.

Keynote speaker, Pina D’Intinio of Aequum Global Access, stressed the importance of being your own advocate, at school and in the workplace, and encouraged everyone with a disability to learn about both their rights and responsibilities as well as those of employers.

Four industry experts made-up a panel that talked about issues in the workplace for people with disabilities. Sandi Gauder, Lizz Noble, Aiann Oishi, and Rosanne Barlias each provided their individual insights and answered audience questions.

In addition, staff from Humber, UGH and Seneca outlined the resources available to help students prepare for their move into the workplace.

The event provided a lot of information and a lot of inspiration for learners.

Transition to Work events will be held throughout the school year and all students with disabilities are encouraged to attend.
