#HumberAtHome Series – April 29

As we continue to work and learn at home, it’s important to stay connected to our colleagues and our community. To help keep us all connected, we created the #HumberAtHome series. We want to know about how you are taking care of your well-being right now, how your teams are adding a bit of fun into your interactions, and which resources are helping you.

Here are some examples of what members of the Humber community are doing to bring their community together:

Individual Tips from Humber Staff

Maureen Martin-Edey, Learning & Development Coordinator with HROE, ventures into the serenity of the Palgrave Forest, adjacent to her community for a one to two-hour hike every night with her husband. There are three main trails within the scenic Palgrave Forest – Palgrave, Bruce and Oak Ridges. There’s long, winding and strenuous mountain biking trails traversing through tall pines, open clearings surrounding wetlands/ponds, and easier open-spaced walking trails. You can hear many bird species sing, and see the odd chipmunk, squirrel or occasional deer. The vast beauty all around can be witnessed for miles. One evening Maureen even heard an owl hooting way up in the trees! There are 20 km of trails to explore, within the boundaries of Highway 50, Duffy’s Lane, Finnerty Sideroad and Humber Station Road.

“A great way to be at peace – walking or hiking is excellent exercise and meditative with the surroundings of calm and fresh new beginnings of spring.”

Congratulations to Stephanie Maggs, Service Adoption Coordinator with ITS!

“Introducing a new member to the Maggs Family – Cassius! We met Cassius on March 21 and officially adopted on April 6 from Boxer Rescue Ontario. Through no fault of his own, when we met Cassius, we were the fourth home in four weeks for him. A half dozen weeks later, he is starting to settle and realizing that he has landed in his forever home. Cassius is a three-year-old, HIGH energy brindle boxer and enjoys his daily hikes or runs in the Hockley area. We have had boxers in our house since 2001 and firmly believe that they are a mandatory member of our family. Although, I’m not sure how he will react when he realizes we won’t always spend 24/7 with him.”
