10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Why Video? Tips and Tricks to make effective educational videos
We’ll share some tips and tricks on how to make effective videos that both inform and engage your students.

2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Panel Discussion
In this session, we will hear from some of our seasoned Humber faculty on what they’ve learned about Teaching During COVID. They will share their experiences, ideas, and creative solutions to this new online world we are now in. How do they build community online? What assessment approaches are they using? How much synchronous vs asynchronous sessions are they delivering? This is a chance to hear from and connect with colleagues from across the college. There will also be an opportunity for some informal Q & A at the end of the session.

Wednesday, October 28, 2020

10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Spaced Repetition software in and outside of the classroom
Join us to learn more about what spaced repetition and testing can do for you and your students. In this workshop, we’ll explore the theory behind it, best practices, and applications with Anki, one of the most used (and free!) spaced repetition software (SRS). The information learned in this workshop can then be applied to any SRS, like Quizlet.

12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Exploring Simple Website Assignments
Are you interested in exploring website creation as an assignment for your students? Are you already exploring websites but are unsure where to send your students for tools, resources, and support?
The Idea Lab is a new library initiative designed to support digital fluency at Humber College. The Idea Lab offers resources including online tutorials, instructional videos, and Blackboard packages for website assignments. In addition, the Idea Lab team are here to support your students with workshops, online support, and one-on-one guidance and troubleshooting with digital assignments.
Ideas for a website assignment include an online portfolio, a blog, a field placement report, and many more. This session will help you explore if there is an appropriate website assignment opportunity in your course.

12 p.m. - 1 p.m. BBQ - All about Tests
During this BBQ (Blackboard Questions) our Blackboard experts will cook up some tasty answers to your burning questions about Tests in Blackboard. You will relish the help!
2 p.m. - 2 p.m. Breathe & Meditate
In response to the current worldwide unprecedented situation calling for social isolation, I have been volunteering online ‘Breathe and Meditate’ Sessions as a facilitator, to different Departments within Humber, during my lunch hour. Humber students and staff have joined these sessions from the comfort of their home. This session that I will be conducting for ED-Venture week is completely in sync with Humber’s strategy towards employee well-being and engagement.
The core value of this session is to help participants discover the power of breath to relieve stress, ease anxiety and boost their immune system in a free interactive online session.
