The Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and the University of Guelph-Humber (hereafter referred to as “Humber” or “the College”) is committed to advancing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) for all members of the College community.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity would like to take this opportunity to provide an overview of the EDI Committee and EDI Taskforce:

EDI Committee

EDI Taskforce

Mandate

The EDI Committee promotes leadership, innovation, collaboration and information sharing on all matters relating to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and the Employment Equity program within the College.

The EDI Committee was established in the 1990’s by the College with responsibility shared jointly by representatives of the Union Locals and the College to act as a consultative body on the development and implementation of an Employment Equity Program.

The EDI Committee has 2 Co-Chairs.

The EDI Committee is a permanent committee at the College.

The EDI Taskforce was established in response to the College identifying as its Strategic Priority #7 under Pillar #3, Healthy and Inclusive Community, to continue to build a diverse and inclusive community of exceptional students, faculty and staff. The specific Supporting Action is to establish and implement an institutional framework and strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion that addresses the needs of both students and employees.

Nancy Simms, Director, Human Rights, Equity & Diversity, is the Lead of the EDI Taskforce. Ian Crookshank, Dean of Students, is the Supporting Lead.

The EDI Taskforce has a temporary mandate from January 2019 to March 2023.

Membership

The EDI Committee has 13 members with representation from faculty, support staff, IGNITE, management, Human Resources and the University of Guelph-Humber.

Recruitment of faculty and support staff to participate on the EDI Committee is supported by the local Union.

The EDI Taskforce has over 60 members with representation from students, faculty, support staff, administrative employees, alumni, industry and community partners.

Humber employees were required to obtain approval from their Senior Dean or Director prior to applying to participate on the EDI Taskforce.
