Speaker Bio:

Kayla is a clinical traumatologist with over a decade of experience, offering an integrative approach to healing by focusing on historical trauma. Using somatic and empowerment therapies, Kayla guides individuals on their journey to recovery from trauma and adversities. Licensed by the Colleges of Counselling Therapy in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Kayla holds the CCC designation as a Canadian Certified Counsellor. They serve on the board of MAPS Canada, is a recent recipient of the top 100 black women in Canada, 2022 Coralus Venture, and contribute as a monthly mental health columnist for CBC Moncton and PEI.

With 11 years of experience as a clinical traumatologist, Kayla specializes in Nutritional Psychology and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. They draw upon intergenerational plant medicine wisdom passed down through their lineage, combined with modern nutritional knowledge. In addition to their professional work, Kayla is a devoted mother of two and shares their life with a partner of 16 years. Beyond personal connections, Kayla actively addresses ancestral and racial trauma from their African, Belizean, and Acadian lineage, striving to honour their heritage, its practices, and the associated traumas through their legacy work.
