Donation Drive for Guatemala

We invite you to support collection of educational materials for the second ECE Service-Learning Project at FUNCOLI Community School, in Antigua, Guatemala.

Selected students from the ECE program will be travelling to Antigua to implement and exchange culturally appropriate, play-based learning experiences with children from Mayan communities. Children will learn skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

We are collecting:

  • Backpacks (new, or gently used - aiming to collect 80)
  • Blocks
  • Lacing materials (beads and string/yarn)
  • Abacus
  • Maps of the world
  • English-Spanish cards
  • Doctor Play Set
  • Dinosaurs theme books, figures, puzzles
  • Playdough
  • Legos
  • Community helpers – dress-up costumes
  • Books in Spanish (children 2-6 and 7-14)
  • Math counters
  • Musical instruments
  • Puzzles
  • Table/group games
  • Rulers or soft measuring tape
  • Small/Compact Workbench
  • Any Outdoor/Sport Equipment (must be easy to carry)
  • Cultural/Traditional Clothing or Artifacts
  • Flashcards
  • Markers and crayons
  • Face paint

The Carol Reid Resource Centre Co-op students will support this initiative by creating Bilingual Literacy Kits to support the children and teachers in Guatemala. Some of your donations will go towards creating these kits! 

Donations will be accepted until Monday, February 5, 2024 and can be placed in a box just behind M200 reception.
