This event will be an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into UDL strategies and share experiences with your colleagues on how to integrate UDL practices into your teaching.

Jodie Black is an experienced Ontario college professor who has worked in higher education for over 14 years.  For the last 12 years, her work has focused on Universal Design for Learning (UDL).  She co-authored UDL Navigators in Higher Education: A Field Guide, a practical guidebook for UDL professionals in higher education.  She also co-founded the UDLHE Network, an international network of UDL professionals in higher education.    

Keynote Title: Opportunities and Impacts: UDL in Higher Education  

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a powerful framework for post-secondary educators to use when designing learning experiences. From service delivery to curriculum development, from leadership decisions to classroom teaching, the postsecondary environment offers a unique ecosystem for UDL to flourish.  

In this keynote address, Jodie Black will explore the opportunities and broad impacts of UDL in higher educational institutions such as Humber College. She will engage in dialogue with the Humber community that encourages a thoughtful discussion on structures, supports and practices needed to fully integrate the UDL framework into practice. Throughout this session, Jodie will encourage attendees to reflect on current teaching and learning practices, pose questions aimed at critically evaluating the potential integration of a UDL framework, and facilitate interactive discussions to foster reflective insights into the integration of UDL.
