Trans Day of Visibility: Learn, Reflect, and Get Involved

The LGBTQ+ Resource Centre is marking Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) and inviting the Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber community to take part in opportunities for learning, reflection, creativity, and connection.

Observed each year on March 31, Trans Day of Visibility is a time to recognize and affirm transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse people, while uplifting the contributions, experiences, and leadership of trans communities. TDOV also offers an important opportunity to deepen awareness and recommit to creating environments where trans and gender-diverse people are respected, supported, and able to thrive.

As part of this year’s recognition of Trans Day of Visibility, the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre is offering a range of community-centred opportunities that invite learning, reflection, creativity, and engagement.

Food, Story, Community – Celebrate Trans Day of Visibility with Us

Join the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre and Indigenous Education & Engagement for an afternoon of food, storytelling, and community.

Thursday, March 27
1 – 3 p.m.
Urban Ecology Centre, Arboretum, North Campus

We are honoured to welcome Kairyn Potts, a Two-Spirit youth advocate, educator, and content creator from the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, as our featured guest. Kairyn will share reflections on Indigeneity, sexuality, and the beauty of Two-Spirit identity through lived experience, advocacy, and storytelling. A warm meal will be served, and all are welcome, no registration required.

Collaborative Painting Event – Make Your Mark for TDOV

Join the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre, the Lakeshore Interpretive Centre, and Lakeshore Student Life for a collaborative painting event.

Tuesday, March 31
12 – 4 p.m.
Student Life Area (WEL 204), Lakeshore Campus

This is an open, drop-in event welcoming staff, faculty, students, and community members to come together and contribute to a large-scale paint-by-numbers artwork. No artistic experience is required, just a willingness to connect, create, and be part of something meaningful. The completed piece will be displayed in Student Life as an enduring symbol of community, visibility, and belonging.

A Call to Learn

Trans Day of Visibility is also a chance to continue learning. The Library’s 2SLGBTQ+ Education Guide, developed with the Humber LGBTQ+ Resource Centre, offers a valuable space to explore terminology, identities, featured topics, community resources, and materials that support greater understanding and inclusion. Community members are encouraged to visit the guide as a way to deepen learning and reflection in recognition of TDOV.

The LGBTQ+ Resource Centre’s marking of Trans Day of Visibility is made possible through collective action and meaningful collaboration across campus. We are grateful to our partners in Indigenous Education & Engagement, the Lakeshore Interpretive Centre, Lakeshore Student Life, and The Library for helping to create opportunities for learning, reflection, storytelling, and community connection. This collaborative approach reflects the importance of working together to foster spaces where trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse community members can feel seen, affirmed, and supported.

As the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre marks Trans Day of Visibility, all members of the Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber community are encouraged to get involved, learn more, and take part in building a campus culture where trans and gender-diverse people are affirmed, valued, and supported.
