 Do you want tips on teaching students how to document their sources and avoid plagiarism…without putting them to sleep?

Humber’s Academic Regulations state that it is the student’s responsibility to learn and use the conventions of documentation. This comes as a shock to many students, who are completely in the dark when it comes to citing their sources and who don’t know the difference between plagiarizing and paraphrasing. This workshop will cover the essentials of teaching students how to document their sources correctly, thereby avoiding “accidental plagiarism”.

Lisa Salem-Wiseman is a professor in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Program Coordinator of the General Arts and Science College and University Transfer Program at the North Campus. She holds a Ph.D. in English from York University and a M.A. from Carleton University. In addition to numerous scholarly articles and book reviews, she has published two writing textbooks: Writing For Canadian Health Professionals, with co-author Sobia Zaman, and English Essentials, 1st Canadian edition, with co-author John Langan.
