To Humber Faculty, Support Staff and Administrators

The Mentoring Partnership is a program that brings together skilled new immigrants and established professionals in occupation-specific mentoring relationships.

On behalf of the Mentoring Partnership, I ask that you consider volunteering your time to this very important initiative. Humber staff can play an important role in mentoring internationally-trained professionals by offering valuable advice and insight to help them understand Canada's workplace cultures. A small commitment from you can have a big impact in the lives of new immigrants.

Humber is a corporate and community partner of The Mentoring Partnership, a program of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC). Humber College was also recently awarded for reaching 100 mentoring matches between our staff and new immigrants. Since 2007 Humber's Community Employment Services has been successful in over 890 mentoring matches overall.

As a mentor, you give 24 hours of your time over a four-month period to help a skilled newcomer navigate through the job search process. As a result, you will benefit in the following ways:

  • Enhanced leadership and coaching skills;
  • Improved cross-cultural communication skills;
  • Gain a better understanding of the skills and experiences that immigrants bring;
  • Become more aware of the job market and industry trends.

During this time you will also have the opportunity to participate in a mentoring and coaching
professional development program:

  • Including workshops, webinars, online modules and networking events
  • Earn PD Credits towards your HRPA or CPA accreditation

Mentors are needed from many occupations, including IT, business, finance, social services, education, human resources, engineering, health professions etc. - all the skills that we have at Humber.

We invite you to attend an Information Session to learn more about how you can volunteer to be a mentor- and make a difference to an internationally-trained professional's job search.
