Frequently Asked Questions and Responses:

What happens at Orientation?

Orientation is designed to provide you with the opportunity to meet your future classmates, tour the campus, interact with your Program Coordinator and faculty members plus introduce you to all the services on campus to help make you successful.

Orientation at Humber includes:

  • Opening Ceremony where you will be welcomed by the President or Vice President.
  • Academic Orientation where you will meet your program faculty and learn about your program.
  • Free lunch!!
  • Campus Tour where you will learn to navigate the campus and learn about services to help you succeed.
  • Social Activities – free, fun and open to all first-year students. Come to as many events as you would like over the week. We strongly encourage you to make an effort to join in the activities --- we guarantee they will be super fun and will help connect you with other students at Humber.

Do I have to attend Orientation?

Last year, 98% of students who attended Orientation indicated that it was worthwhile to have attended. In addition, research proves that attending Orientation helps you succeed academically by connecting you to the appropriate services and supports available to you. There are some sessions offered during Orientation Week that are strongly recommended and should be considered mandatory for all incoming students. These are intended to prepare you for the start of classes.

  • Opening Ceremony
  • Campus Tour and Student Services Information
  • Academic Orientation
  • Mature Student and International Student sessions

Other activities are optional; however, we highly recommend that you take advantage of the opportunities provided. We believe by attending as many of the additional information and social events you will feel more connected with your new Humber family. In the end, this will help you to find your direction.

Can I bring a parent, family member or guest to Orientation?

Yes. Parents or family are welcome to attend a special one-hour Orientation session just for them so they can learn about the college and have all their questions answered. Please note that this is separate from your Orientation so you will not be spending the day together. Both you and your family members will be having too much fun to notice the other is not around.

Is there a cost to attend Orientation?

Orientation is free for new students including all the social events, food and special programming! The Humber Students’ Federation is your source for fun on campus and will be teaming up with the Student Success & Engagement team to put on some great socials for you.

Do I need to pay for parking at Orientation?

Parking on campus during Orientation is free. Upon registration, you will receive a parking permit.
