Staff students and faculty are invited to donate personal electronic waste for proper recylcingl.

Event runs from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

ACCEPTING: 

  • Batteries
  • Cell phones
  • Computers
  • Keyboards, mice
  • Printers, scanners
  • TVs, VCRs, DVD players
  • USBs, cords, etc.
     

ECHARITY COMPONENT:

  • For every metric tonne of materials collected TRI will donate $150 to the Humber College United Way campaign

ELECTRONIC RECYCLING PARTNER:

Toronto Recycling Inc. (TRI)

  • Dismantling company
  • TRI’s process
    • receive waste
    • hard drives are wiped
    • products are sorted by type
    • dismantled
    • remove any hazardous materials like ink and toner or batteries all of which are completely recyclable as well
    • remove all the wires, and computer boards, fans and motors
    • materials shipped to recyclers
  • Only about 2.5 per cent of everything TRI receives goes to landfill
  • 500-600 metric tonnes of product received/month
  • Use a labor force to dismantle electronics rather than machines, more efficient
