What will it take to turn the tide of the AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa? In this lecture, Ilana Landsberg-Lewis will argue that the international community should invest in the expertise of African community-based counselors and advocates who are working to restore lives and hope with innovative and effective programming: from grandmothers raising their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS, to home-based care workers giving aid and comfort to the sick and dying, to medical workers in the Congo resurrecting health, hope and dignity in women survivors of sexual violence, to art and music therapists working with grieving and confused children. Landsberg-Lewis will share the inspired and inspiring stories of how these African experts are making a tangible difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
