The Honourable James Bartleman will be speaking on Canada's Forgotten Native Children.

The housing crisis in the northern Ontario Cree community of Attawapaskat has disturbed many Canadians unwilling to face the fact that many native people on isolated reserves live in Third World conditions. They would be even more shocked to learn that an epidemic of suicide among children and youth in Northern Ontario has been ongoing for over a quarter of a century, out of sight and mind of mainstream society. In this talk, James Bartleman will look at the causes of this tragedy, in particular the intergenerational impact of the residential school experience on young people of today, and also suggest ways to deal with it.
