Organizational Update

As Humber embarks on a new five-year strategic plan, it is essential that we not only maintain but enhance our leadership role in the college system.

I am pleased to announce the following organizational changes to our executive team. After careful consideration and discussion, I believe the new structure will support our priorities now and into our future. Changes resulting from the pending retirements of John Mason and Rick Embree will be effective August 1, 2013.

In considering potential changes, it has been my intention to address key challenges identified by the presidential succession committee as well as emergent themes from our strategic planning consultations.

  • Strengthen Humber brand/identity and positioning in the postsecondary market
  • Enhance internal and external communications
  • Continue to strengthen Humber's broad range of programs from Apprenticeships, Diplomas to Degrees
  • Build and strengthen external partnerships and community linkages
  • Strengthen revenue streams; sustain financial health
  • Preserve and strengthen our ability to work together for student success

Change effective April 1, 2013

Deb McCarthy has been appointed to Vice-President, Human Resources. This structure aligns HR as a strategic member of the executive team and recognizes best practices and current standards in higher education and industry. This move emphasizes Humber's commitment to talent management and ensures that consideration for Humber's employees is at the forefront of organizational decision-making.

Changes Upon John Mason's and Rick Embree's Retirements

Ruth MacKay, Director Planning & Government Relations, will be reporting directly to me commencing upon Rick's retirement. Ruth will continue her work organizing Humber's communications and relationships with all levels of government. She will finalize Humber's new strategic plan for 2013-2018 and continue to monitor the implementation of our strategic and business planning cycle.

In the coming months, Humber will initiate a national search for a new Vice-President, Advancement & External Affairs. This role will focus on our larger Humber community and be responsible for developing and fostering external strategic partnerships.
