Humber Wins Two Awards at the 2012 Ontario Colleges Continuing Education Conference

June 12, 2012

Five provincial Continuing Education CONNY awards are granted each year to deserving colleges for excellence in: programming, web applications, marketing, exemplary procedures and adult education strategies for success. At this year’s conference held June 4 – 6 in King City, Humber received two awards:

Category: Adult Education Strategies for Success
Initiative: Humber-ACCES Sales and Marketing Refresher
Recipients: Mark Hanna, Director of Professional and Continuing Education, The Business School

As one of its community outreach initiatives Humber partnered with ACCES Employment to offer a one week (offered to 20 cohorts of 15 within a contract period of 2.5 years) intensive Sales and Marketing Refresher course to internationally trained professionals. The objective is to provide professionals with significant international sales and marketing experience refresher training on sales and marketing within the Canadian context.

Category: Web Applications
Initiative: Virtual Live Online Proctoring
Recipient: Denis Gravelle, Director Continuing Education & Workforce Development, School of Applied Technology

The development of online credit based course delivery has enabled distance learning in higher education to grow significantly. Final exams usually require a certified proctored setting for student authentication as well as to ensure academic integrity. Finding a proctored setting is challenging for learners, especially when some live in rural areas or are studying abroad. With increase demand for eLearning, existing capacity and resources to provide a certified proctored setting is problematic and costly. This project features how live online proctoring services can provide higher education institutions a level of integrity that meets and exceeds typical examination requirements.
